Our speaker will be Prof. Cade Coldren,
Texas Tech University, “The Status of the Inca Dove in Texas - “Hope or No
Hope”
The lobby will open at 6:45pm and the meeting will begin at 7:00pm.
In recent years, the Inca Dove has been expanding its range northward
through the central part of the United States. And yet, its status in
Texas is not well known. Based initially on some work in Lubbock, and
expanded to include multiple datasets, like the Christmas Bird Count, it
appears this shy little dove may not be doing as well as many had
thought. Recent
declines have been seen in multiple areas, and the cause for these declines
is not clear.
Cade Coldren is an Assistant Professor in the Natural Resources Department
of Texas Tech University. Initially trained in ornithology at Texas A&M, he
left Texas for 20 years for some consulting work in ecological modeling,
but never really got to conduct research on birds. Several years ago, he
joined the faculty at Tech, and is enjoying the opportunity to once again
work with birds.
