Thanks for the report. I am going to leave the bug open until we have decided
on the final implementation.

The biggest thing to decide is how this should be enabled. Eternity Engine does
a very similar thing as far as blitting the 8-bit surface to a 32-bit screen.
They enable it with a parameter "-8in32". The problem with this is that we want
to go to the directx driver on Windows by default due to the gdi mouse issues
but many people will experience this bug when they run with the directx driver.
Another thing to consider is that it takes time to do the blit and, while it
shouldn't be noticeable on a decent machine, it does reduce framerate and it
could be noticeable on low-end machines.
