http://odamex.net/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=1140 Bug ID: 1140 Summary: Weapon sounds completely stop working Product: Odamex Version: 0.7.x Hardware: x86 (Windows, Linux, etc) OS: Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 Status: NEW Severity: critical Priority: P1 Component: Client Assignee: odamex-bug-reporter@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Reporter: watermelonst@xxxxxxxxxxx This appears to be something new to 0.7, I haven't heard of this before. It started during the beginning of the WDL season when a player had his weapon sounds stop working. For some reason it has started happening to me. It happens on servers unmodified from the 0.7.0 source. My client is not modified either. *** For CTF and duel, this is EXTREMELY painful to play with and is game breaking. Sounds are a major part of hearing when enemies are coming and figuring out where they are. This is hurting me huge in the WDL because I cannot hear where some people are anymore, and it gives the other team one massive advantage... *** What happens is the weapon sounds for the initial fire stop working. So for the SSG, you hear the boom and then the 2-3 reloading sounds. When this happens, I only hear the reloading sounds. This is particularly painful when dealing with the shotgun because it's just one sound. In shotgun maps, I literally hear nothing but grunting. It's very disorienting to play with and I don't know why it's happening. Sometimes I join and the sounds are fine and then they stop working. The scary thing is that sometimes they go away, then they come back after a few minutes, and go away again... which could mean possibly some buffer writing error possibly? - Other times, the sounds stop working, and they'll start up again when someone touches the flag. - The chaingun is a funny case, it works half the time. instead of going "puh puh puh puh" every 2-3 tics, it goes "puh --- puh ---", where it only plays every second firing sound now. - I haven't touched my config at all. - I have tried with my sound slider at all different positions a few days after it started happening, and there was no luck with fixing this. ========================== Now the REALLY interesting thing is that some lag issues I had seemed to have vanished when this appeared. I was getting what seemed like bad packet loss when the match starts (like countdown goes 5, 4, 3...) and for about a week and a half it would take literally 3 full seconds before my game reset. Now it seems to reset much quicker (still some noticeable delay) but my sounds are messed up. I've investigated packet loss and there is none. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
