Hello all,
At Dare To Dream Ranch we currently have 3 Veterans participating in a 5 day
retreat. On Saturday the 11th, I'm going to be doing a woodworking session with
them starting in the morning. My plan is for a simple project - pens - that can
be done in a relatively short time, and be completely finished by the end of
the session. Probably 2 to 3 hour time frame since we will go from start to
finish: picking the wood, making the blanks, gluing the tubes in, turning,
finishing with a friction polish or spray poly, assembling.
On site in the wood shop I currently have my mini-lathe with a pen mandrel for
it, as well as taking my Delta and pen mandrel from home which will give me 2
lathes to be able to run simultaneously. I will be supplying the pen kits. I
also have sanding materials. I am looking for a possible volunteer who has a
lathe that is portable enough, like a mini or even a small delta like the ones
we have in the school, who would be interested in helping out so that I can
have all three participants turning instead of having to make one of them wait
for one of the others to finish.
I'd be looking to set up and ready to start by 9 so I will probably be getting
there about 8 to get things set up. I do have tools there as well as will be
bringing my own so bringing personal tools would not be needed though obviously
fine if desired.
Please give me a call if interested/able. I am back to work driving my school
bus so there are two periods during the day I cannot answer my phone.864-2217
