Sorry, responded to the VFA question from Laurie previously. Meant to reply to
Brynn’s question about Student Financial Need😊.
Response from our FA Director. Thank you.
“The Department of Education uses Federal Methodology (FM) to ultimately arrive
at need, which is how the Pell is calculated. The FAFSA uses FM to determine a
student's expected family contribution (EFC) and that is how need is determined.
The State uses FM as well but utilizes a higher limit of the expected family
contribution (derived from the FM) to calculate their awards than that used for
the Pell.
We use FM here at TVCC for awarding need-based funds. The other methodology
that can be used is institutional methodology (IM), often used by very large
schools or foundations to award institutional funds.”

Subject: [occcircore] Determining Student Financial Need
Hi gang…
I think I can safely way we all use PELL eligibility to determine a students
financial need. Do any of you also include students who receive the Oregon
Opportunity Grant?
Thanks!
