IMMEDIATE RELEASE, SUNDAY 4 FEBRUARY 2018
Lucas - May ”making decisions in personal, not national, interest”
It is being reported tonight (Sunday) that the Prime Minister is ruling out
Britain remaining in the Customs Union so as to avoid a confrontation with the
most extreme Brexiters in her Cabinet this week.
Commenting, Caroline Lucas MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign,
said:
“It is increasingly clear Theresa May is not making decisions about Brexit in
the national interest but in the interest of her remaining in her own job.
"Leaving the Customs Union means a hard border in Ireland and would be
devastating for British businesses.
“To do this purely for personal political survival would only serve to
emphasise how weak Mrs May has become."
