Today a small movement brought three goldencrowned and three whitecrowned
sparrows to my yard. One of the whitecrowned was molting into adult plumage,
with the sides of the head showing a rough black and white stripe but the crown
still mostly in the heavy reddish-brown of first year plumage.
I see this "halfway" plumage all the time in goldencrowns but I can't recall
seeing a whitecrown quite like this one before.
