Dave,
I have extensive experience in the Southwest with the various Junco types. I
agree that yours is some kind of hybrid. The pink sides on a bona fide
Pink-sided go way down the sides to where they almost converge with the other
side. Like these guys:
Your bird shares some of the traits, but not enough for me to call it a
Pink-sided, for what it’s worth.

The more I study all my photos, I'm leaning toward some hybrid. Could be a mix
with slate-colored. Most pink-sided photos show very extensive rusty pink
flanks. Complex group, to say the least. Oh well, fall fun.

Hi All,
Encountered a new junco in the yard this morning. Immediately piqued my
interest with its cool, light gray hood and dark lores. It does lack any rich
pink wash on flanks, but it does show some in good light (very foggy morning).
Whaddya think?
