Not tape related but there are reports of this species attacking hikers (daylight) in Tryon creek park in the Lake Oswego area. Have seen Saw-whet owl male "charge" a group of birders when one imitated its call....it came in quite close and was pretty agressive in countenance, this was at night and a female was near. There is a place where I had seen them a few times in previous years but I hadn't been for 2 years until last night. After playing the tape for about 20 seconds, it felt like the back of my head was hit by a rock. The result can be seen here: http://andyfrank.blogspot.com/ . Left-clicking enlarges it. (I also hope to avoid starting a discussion on my thinning and graying hair) I don't recall reading of anyone else reporting this and am wondering how unique this is. And perhaps we can also avoid a discussion on the ethics of counting a bird neither seen nor heard but certainly felt.
