I just spotted an orange-colored finch below our backyard feeders. It's one
of those birds whose nutrition causes its pigment to be orange instead of
red. Lots of people see House Finches with this coloration at some time or
other.
What is striking about this bird is that it has the facial pattern of a
PURPLE FINCH with the big brown swoosh through the auriculars. I think this
is the first time I've ever noticed such a bird.
