I've spent the last week or so playing around with an online
data submission site call iNaturalist.

http://www.inaturalist.org/home

It has its good points and it failings, but it is a very communal online
mechanism for recording stuff you see in nature (including birds).
Records are vetted communally.  This means that if you are
a member, you can add your opinion to the veracity of records that have
been submitted.

While I do not recommend it as a substitute for eBird, I do recommend it
for folks who want to submit some of the other things they see and
photograph in nature for the public record and the system could really
use some help from local naturalists with a modicum of expertise in
matters botanical and entomological.

No pressure, just throwing it out there for those looking to do
something citizen sciency while stuck inside during the coming snow
storms...
