Had to look this up to remind myself, but a very short primary projection
would make it Chestnut as well. Which it seems to have in that one shot of
back. So streaking on sides/flanks and short projection would be fine for
Chestnut. A good bird to study in field.

bit open and pale but a McCown’s has a remarkably plain look - the female
is almost confusable with a female House Sparrow. Those of you who saw the
one in Portland some years ago will remember, and I’ve seen them in the
mountain states, too.
