Jan and I think that we have an Anna's hummingbird nesting in a large
rhododendron in our yard. She has been making frequent trips to a feeder near
this plant. In the last two days, she has been hawking for insects and spending
less time at the feeder. I read in Cornell Lab of Ornithology's life history of
this hummingbird in their online Birds of North America that when the eggs
hatch, the female parent spends more time capturing bugs and less time
consuming nectar. Her behavior seems to indicate that she has nestlings in the
shrub.
