I decided not to push McCown’s anymore because I saw a short primary projection
and the malar stripe and area around ear patch are faint but look Chestnut,
short primary and tail give it the chunky look. Only reason I even mentioned
McCown’s is that first description was of a very bland bird and saw no mention
why not McCown’s.

…with the Blueberry Rd longspur
So, my friend Roy saw and studied a plain longspur on Blueberry Rd in Linn
county March 13. He said he’d post to eBird later. I haven’t been able to
find that post.
Rachael Friese posted eBird phots and later a video.
Several people have opined that this is a Chustnut-collared. Smith’s has
been discussed. McCown’s has been mentioned.
Looking at Rachel’s photos and Sibley’s drawings, I want to ask, “Why isn’t
this an immature McCown’s?”
BTW I spent 3 hours at the site yesterday and never saw any longspur or snow
bunting.
