Just for fun on this rainy day I looked up my sightings of BROWN THRASHER in
Oregon. There are five, in five counties.
1. Marion County, Salem, 12-28-1988 at a private residence: "Mrs. Lowery's"
, not at the downtown location indicated by the eBird record.
According to the OBRC, this bird was present from Dec 10, 1988 - Feb 16,
1989.
2. Harney County, Malheur NWR hqtrs, Sept 24, 1994. Reported to eBird by
Steve Pink "seen by many".
3. Klamath County, Klamath Falls, Mar 18, 1995, with Judy Meredith. From my
notes, it was at the home of biologist Ron Garrett. "Coming to his house
since Thanksgiving "(1994)
This is no doubt the same bird reported to eBird by Kevin Spencer Nov 23,
1994.
4. Lake County, Summer Lake CBC, at refuge hqtrs. Dec 23, 1997. Reported
in eBird as early as Dec 13, 1997
5. Lincoln County, Salishan Nature trail, Feb 17, 2017. This bird was
reported to eBird from Nov 6, 2016 - Mar 19, 2017.
This is one of the birds I knew by name as a child in south-central
Minnesota, an old friend.

Subject: [obol] eBird Records of Brown Thrasher in Oregon
I was surprised by the seemingly mild level of interest in Lane county's
Brown Thrasher. My first thought was the heavy rain. Then I suspected
something else might be happening, so I downloaded the list of observations
in Oregon of the Brown Thrasher for all time from eBird.
Robert Lockett entered the earliest account of the species on 30 September
2021, dated 31 October 1974, at Malheur NWR--Headquarters. The date of the
most recent observation, as you are aware, is 4-5 December 2021.
For those of us who prefer to avoid evening math other than counting sheep
- the records in eBird span 47 years. On average, eBird records yield
observations of Brown Thrasher in 7 out of every ten years, which
translates to a total of 33 of the intervening years.
Someone realized this evening they just fell off the "turnip truck,"
