We have seen one (same one?) in this area in Feb, 2009 and Mar-Apr, 2013. In
Jan 2011 (on WA side of river) and Nov 2012 we saw a male at Broughton Beach.
It seems that in late fall, one or two Tufted Ducks show up at Broughton Beach
or Hayden Island before moving into the Clark County side of the river
mid-winter. Scaup concentrate on that side of the river during lower water
levels, it seems. Then in late winter and early spring, one Tufted Duck seems
to show up on this stretch of river. I've seen a male hybrid Tufted Duck a few
times during past winters, as well."
