I believe a substantial portion of the population is cartographically
illiterate. The giant leap forward for me in birding was my first copy of
the Golden guide. Maps, text, and picture in the same field of view. But l
recently noticed the Sibley 2 app claims that Mountain Quail do not exist
in my yard or any points to the north and west of here. I suspect more
folks have put the species on life, state , and county lists on Hayward Rd,
Johnson Rd and the Timber area than the rest of Oregon combined.
The county rarities synopsis has for me been the best innovation on
Obol since l subscribed 12 years ago. And l have developed a strong
sympathy for all the volunteer reviewers.
