and i love birds. While civilization often falls short of our expectations, I
think it is a vast improvement on nature red in tooth and claw. Among other
things it gave us the Endangered Species Act. To quote that ever quotable
charlatan and dilitante H.D. Thoreau,"However long it takes, mankind generally
hits his mark so he had better aim pretty high".
