OK, sorry, but here I go with one more plug, as long as I’m at it…. I’m doing
this simply because I think many of you will absolutely love this musician’s
very bird-relevant work, and I only recently discovered it myself. Portland
birder Stephan Nance is an exceptionally talented professional musician who
performs as “Sparkbird” and who some of you will already know from
birding-related venues. My favorite song of theirs is Varied Thrush, which
will be officially released next month. The wonderfully catchy tune is
accompanied by these insanely ingenious and on-point lyrics, which for us
Willamette-Valley dwellers will bring us back to the cooler wetter days of
February & March:
“Hush, hush: Listen to the Varied Thrush.
The freezing rain has pushed them down into the Valley with the rest of us.
Flush, from the comfortably lush forest floor, they draw their bows across
Serrated edges of musical saws and crush the frigid sharply pointed hearts of
icicles like us."
