Yesterday morning I could see several thousand shorebirds from my office window at the HMSC overlooking Yaquina Bay. After work I went out on the mudflats as the tide began to overnight them. Thousands of shorebirds were flying from further up the bay and down the channel towards the bridge and jetties exiting the bay. One mixed flock of about 500 shorebirds foraged around me and at times got, very close. The flock contained western and least sandpipers, dowitchers, dunlin, whimbrel, semi-palmated plover and 2 red knots.
