Several got to see the YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER this morning. It is a
rather scruffy individual and is probably a juvenile transitioning.
Mark and Cindy Armstrong got photos that will be available later for
study.
The sapsucker is frequenting the Cleawox Day Use Area at Honeyman SP
south of Florence. Once you turn off Hwy 101, stay right every chance
you get and it will take you to an overflow parking lot. The bird was
found in a cedar with many wells at the south end of this lot. It
works around the area quite a bit and was seen as far south as the
bathrooms/employee building. There is a hemlock covered in wells
about half way between these two areas that it was working frequently.
The bird left and returned to this spot several times. Listen for
tapping.
