A group of 7 early birds including Caleb and Courtney, Paul Sullivan, Tim
Rodenkirk, Frank Mayer, Dave Haupt, and myself, headed down the Klamath River
Canyon, Topsy Grade Road, hiking in at 630 AM Sunday, 14th June, to Frain Ranch
area. Arriving at around 730 at the pinned location, the Wood Thrush was
neither seen nor heard for about 2 hours. Then it was heard singing for about
two to three minutes, but was not seen in the dense vegetation near the big
Ponderosa Pine at the pinned location. Patient checking was not successful with
seeing the bird, and with silence, again the group waited. All but Caleb and
Courtney hiked out at about noon. Others came down the trail later, but I've
heard from some that came out late today that there was no sign or sound from
the thrush since that morning period of singing. So only a short/brief period of
singing near mid-morning today, and was not seen.I hear that some may try again
tomorrow.I placed a rock cairn where the bird was most active and
seen during the two days while I have been there. And it's at the Friday's
pinned location.Good birding!Kevin SpencerKlamath Falls, ORSent from my Verizon
