I echo some of the thoughts shared in this thread. When contracting a
three day tour in Chile with Albatross Birding (whom I highly recommend,
btw), I had to do a wire transfer. Bank of America hemmed and hawed a
little, making me nervous, but it all went through fine. But there are key
points to remember, most of which were already mentioned:
1) Know that you are dealing with reputable businesses/guides/lodges
2) As David (?) pointed out, always follow the instructions as provided by
the provider
3) Make sure your bank is able to handle the transfer correctly (I had to
make two attempts at my local B of A branch to do this, and my credit union
could not do this at all)
