We've had very large flocks of thousands of Cacklers visit nearby fields
east of Mt. Angel the past 3 days. One group looked like at least 2-3,000.
Looked like a NWR rather than farm country! Sometimes they have been in
fields that grew peppers last summer and sometimes in former corn fields. I
wonder how long they will hang around and fatten up before leaving for the
far north? I know that Baskett Slough and Ankeny allow walking through
back-refuge areas starting tomorrow so the UFWS must think they are going or
gone.
Been looking for a warbler -any warbler- on rural walks and this morning we
had our FOY Orange crowned Warbler in our roses west of house. Also, the
Harris's Sparrow was seen two days ago for those interested. (Last year the
last sighting was April 13.)
