Hi all,
I have greatly enjoyed reading everyone's responses on my sapsucker. I am
still a bit torn between hybrid and pure (or pure-ish) on this bird, but it
led me to dig into my hard drives looking for old sapsucker photos. I came
across a couple from a motorless birding expedition in NE Portland in
January of 2014, and I uploaded a few photos to Flickr. There are two
different birds, about a mile apart, that both show great variation in
appearance. I gave them little thought and noted them as RBSA's. Now that
I look at them they look more hybrid-y than the Wasco bird (to me) and I
am officially getting more confused.

I'm hoping to do some more research this week on my rainy days off.
Good birding,

P.S. I mentioned this on the Portland Area Birds google group: There is a
large gathering of Mew Gulls at Parkrose High School now. I noticed the
same thing last March. My highest count has been 300, lowest around 100.
Last year they left towards the end of March. A very cool sight to see so
many Mew Gulls swirling over the track.
