One february day, about 1994, I saw a Pacific Pond Turtle there. I have
visited hundreds of times between 1978 and present, but only seen turtles
once. They're less mobile than birds and were certainly present on most,
maybe all of my other visits that were negative results.

Going strictly from memory, it's the first location for a confirmed
detection of Eurasian Wigeon in Oregon. I first visited Crystal Springs
some October morning in 1978, without a binocular.There was a Eurasian
Wigeon . The status of so many bird species has changed dramatically since
G & J's "Birds of Oregon" was published.
