My heart goes out to the family of Ulo Kiigemagi. He was a retired
professor of agricultural chemistry at OSU who took up birding in
retirement. Through the years I had the opportunity to bird with Ulo on
many occasions. He was always enthusiastic and had a wry smile when he saw
a good bird or cracked a joke. I always enjoyed his company.
He was a fixture at the Oregon Shorebird Festival, attending every annual
event. He usually was singled out for recognition of his faithful
attendance. At the age of 91 he said, "Only nine more to go."

I just wanted to let the birding community know that my dad, Ulo Kiigemagi,
died peacefully last night at the age of 94. Many of you met him in the
field over the years.
