Dear Birders,
This morning I was lucky to be at the ready with my recording equipment when a
crossbill flew south over my River Rd-area Eugene yard. The call notes are
classic kinked RED CROSSBILL TYPE 2 (PONDEROSA PINE) flight call notes, a new
one for the yard (maybe some day I'll be able to count it as another species).
This type seems to be very rare on the Valley floor, with just a few very
scattered eBird submissions for the coast and Coast Range. This is the
commonest crossbill type of much of the state east of the Cascade crest.
I'll be submitting my recording with my eBird submission later this evening.
Good Birding,
Rich
