COMMON GOLDENEYE (female) continues in the east pond on the south side of the
main road across the refuge. The continuing SAYS PHEOBE was at the east end of
the canal. However, it is along the south face of the main road at the first
pond and rarely pops up above to the road. Increasing temperature today may get
it to sit on the railing at the east end of the canal for a better view. In the
same pond with the goldeneye is a male EURASIAN WIGEON. Basically hanging by
itself along the pond edges.
Around 11 am this morning, a TURKEY VULTURE flew in from the south. It settled
in shallow water near a dead goose. It pulled the goose to shore where it is
currently feeding. That dead goose has also provided food for a RED-TAILED HAWK
and an adult BALD EAGLE this morning.
About 10:30 this morning it warmed enough to get the swallows moving. A couple
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS and nearly 20 TREE SWALLOWS. Surprisingly, 2 CLIFF
SWALLOWS were loosely hanging with the tree swallows.
It's now 11:30 and the wind is picking up out of the east. Doesn't seem any
warmer than when I got here several hours ago.
