While Chuck Philo and I were watching about 14 red phalaropes on the
Toledo waterfront near the summer's osprey nest, a peregrine came in
and made several unsuccessful attempts to grab one, then an eagle
targeted the same hapless bird, also unsuccessfully. The peregrine
drove off the eagle and all peace returned.
A pair of phalaropes at Sallys Bend were walking on the upper
intertidal mudflat, acting like the shorebirds that they are.
