Nice story. Just one comment: by today's taxonomy the count was actually 36
species, because they had both Canada and Cackling Geese.

Owen - We broke it a few years later. Either 36 or 37. I think you were part
of the team. It is published somewhere. we missed Cinnamon Teal, but found a
male Blue-winged. The Portland area had Tufted Ducks and a Trumpeter Swan -
both then more rare than now in the area, and an Emperor Goose. I think there
was a King eider at Newport, and there was a Ross' Goose at Nestucca NWR.
There was a great set up of rarities and common species.
