Walking my property yesterday, I noticed a raptor in the distance and lifted my
binoculars to see what it was. I did an immediate double-take — the first
thing I noticed was its head, and with the heavy black eyestripe my first
reaction was, osprey, but of course I knew that could not be, not in January.
When I saw the markings below I knew it wasn’t an osprey, but I still did not
know what it was. Checked Sibley’s and saw it was a third year bald eagle.
Never realized its head was so osprey-like. Nice to learn something new.
