There were 1654 Vaux’s Swifts that swirled their way into the chimney behind
the Palace Theater tonight. (My counting of large groups is a bit rusty but I
think this is under the actual number.) Reported to Larry Schwitters at
www.vauxhappening.org as he seems dedicated to this species . Best spot to
observe in Silverton is behind the theater by the Silverton Senior Center. This
“old standby” chimney has usually (but not always) been a hot spot for swift
migration. It was gratifying to see such a huge group again. Thanks to Grant
C. for reporting on OBOL and eBird two days ago.
