I saw a similar flock this morning along New River (Curry County). The
flock was several miles along and mostly over ranchlands. It was distant
and I assumed VGSWs. I was on the river in a boat and on land doing plants
surveys but showed everyone the swallow flock (let them borrow my bins)
which was high up- they were all amazed!
Several thousand for sure…

focus on were Violet Greens.
There was a flock of swallows skimming the surface of the river that
stretched from the I-84 bridge in Troutdale down river to well around the
bend of the dog beach towards the mouth of the river. I guess I was just
dumbstruck by the size of the flock.
I estimated the length of the flock at 1.1 miles long and the width from
bank to bank. At one point out on the dog beach the swallows were swirling
around me over my head and below my knees. It was wonderful.
