I believe you also need a flashlight, according to tradition, but tradition
doesn't know jack... (If by small, you mean half the size with a
proportionately short bill, then, hmm, indeed.)

Yesterday, I flushed a snipe from the kacky ditch at the corner of the
cyclone fence near the blackbird feeder.  It seemed small, flushed silently
and flew, low to the ground to an area behind the kack that is inaccessible.

This is my third encounter with a snipe that makes me go hmmm in the last
twenty years or so.  It's unlikely that I will be able to re-find this bird,
but it is snipe migration season and worth a heads-up to would-be snipe
hunters.
