Western Scrub-Jays are my gutter cleaners, they've been fairly active gutter
cleaners the past month.
I don't live in an area with great Varied Thrush habitat and they basically
serve as morning greeters as I leave the house. The last greeting was about a
week ago.

Varied Thrushes this year. They arrived with a crew of 16 and I had great
hopes but now they have up and left early without doing any of their usual
chores. They didn't move the dried-but-wet oak leaves into the usual neat
pile at the bottom of the bank by the driveway, they never stirred the
compost on my garden beds, they never sang for me from the mulch under my
window and most distressing of all, they didn't even clean my gutters before
leaving town! Every spring they leave a line of moss, leaves, and debris
forming a ring all the way around my house from their gutter work but this
year, nothing. Who's going to do the gutters.... the chipmunks?! Bahhh...
they never do a thorough job like the thrushes do.
Shaking my head, sadly,
