We are here at Fernhill and believe we are seeing the Stilt Sandpiper. It
has been working the shore of one of the islands in the mitigation area,
near a flock of Cacklers. Large sandpiper with gray brown upper parts,
underparts appear dark washed ,vs white but distance is too far to
determine exact pattern. Stands taller than LB Dowitcher, and behavior
completely different. Solitary and did not seem to bob at the same rapid
pace. Long slightly down turned bill and dark cap seemed distinct.
Another birder concurres the description. Would love more opinions if
anyone is out this way. Also saw two LB Dowitchers and two Greater
Yellowlegs nearby for comparison.
Good birding,
Carolyn Storey
