Thanks for posting this, Alan.
I was one of Steve’s students at Evergreen and he was such a strong
influence on me and so many students. His passion for birds, field work,
natural history, Malheur, the Grinnell method of keeping a scientific
journal were fun and inspirational tools for navigating entry into science,
birds, teaching and wonder. I think about him often. “Grinnell before
granola!”
