Harry Fuller posted in Feb that the State Park at the south (top) end of Grand
Island in Yamhill County was closed due to vandalism. I saw it that way a few
weeks ago.
Today I found the “Closed” sign removed and the parking lot accessible. I
walked down to the river and found it very high, up close to the fire pit and
picnic table. I saw 1 Hooded Merganser and 1 Kingfisher.
Elsewhere on Grand Island I found both Trumpeter and Tundra Swans, lots of
Cackling geese, 3 Ospreys at nests, and 5 Greater Yellowlegs.
I also saw 4 Turkey Vultures in my rambling.
At home I have both Anna’s and Rufous Hummingbirds of both sexes.
Good birding, everyone,
Paul Sullivan
