A Pectoral Sandpiper showed up today at a Streaked Horned Lark monitoring site
south of Brownsville, where there are still a few shallow ponds holding water.
I've been seeing only a few juvenile larks from the first round of nesting --
seems like it wasn't very successful. The second round of nesting is in full
swing though, so hopefully that will be more productive.
Grass seed harvest is reaching its midpoint. Most fields have been swathed and
combined now, but the straw balers have some work to do to catch up. Ravens and
vultures everywhere, and kestrels also seem to be enjoying the spread.
