There will be no Coos Bay CBC this year.
However, I will be compiling the Port Orford CBC which will be on 28
December, the Saturday after Christmas. If you'd like to help out let me
know and I will get you details. Last year we had 44 (!) Palm Warblers and
144 species (good for second most in the state). It is a small count with
15-20 people most years. It has never had over 150 species but maybe
someday? We do not meet beforehand but I have all sorts of great info I
have compiled for the count as far as abundance of each species, birds to
look for in each area, etc. which I share with everyone before the count
when I set teams up. At the end of the day we will be having our after
countdown dinner at Terry Wahl's place in Langlois this year.
Dinner provided (nothing fancy but always good).
I think Harv Schubothe will be having the Coquille Valley count (Bandon to
Coquille) on 4 January. I will let him update folks on that. Last year
they had the most species in Oregon and always seem to find all sorts of
cool, unusual species some people love to chase the following day. Dinner
is usually at Bandon Marsh Headquarters- a real fun countdown for sure.
