When I saw the posting on Common Murres I remembered that last Monday I was
working out on the tip of Cape Blanco and there was a mile long slick of C
Murres there- maybe 10,000?
On Thursday I was up around 2,000 feet in Doug Co. in the Coast Range
between Myrtle Point and Roseburg. The heavy Feb snows really nailed the
Coast Range in this area all the way north to Elkton and likely beyond. The
only roads opened are mainlines where downed trees, hundreds per mile, have
been cleaned up. I could not get to the location I was hoping to get to but
did hear a calling Sooty Grouse and saw but did not hear Mt Quail.
On Thursday and Friday Terry Wahl had Chipping Sparrows on the family ranch
near Cape Blanco- definitely on the early side for them (earliest Coos
record is 8 Apr).
Yesterday we were visiting friends inland east of Coquille in the country
out yonder. Their three porch hummer feeders were hopping, around 30 Anna’s
and Rufous feeding, Linda said it was much busier last week!
