Hello all,
Oscar and I relocated the LAUGHING GULL on the beach south of the South
Beach SP parking area around 10 am this morning. The bird was all by itself
just on the other side of the creek, near the water's edge, and allowed a
pretty close approach.

This is only the 4th record for Oregon. Thanks to Chuck, Dally and Vickie
for initially finding and photographing the bird, and thanks to Joshua
Little for scrutinizing the photos and questioning the original ID as a
Franklin's Gull. A great find (and very nice of the bird to stick around
for a couple of days)!
We encountered only a few other gulls (didn't see the Bonaparte's reported
by others) and a couple of CASPIAN TERNS on the beach. No shorebirds at all.
At the South Jetty the MARBLED GODWIT continued at the gull puddle, and the
SAY'S PHOEBE was briefly seen in the shore pines SE of the port-a-potties
near the end of the road.
