A few reports of late. The Bilderbacks, Diane and Dave, have had a flock
of up to 8 WESTERN BLUEBIRDS on the beach on the south end of Bandon since
mid-January. Diane took some great photos, very unusual for Coos although
south into Curry in the New River bottomlands to Cape Blanco they are
regular close to the beach- not so in Coos.
The Bilderbacks also got great photos of the lone LAPLAND LONGSPUR on the
north end of Floras Lake- been there all winter. Some winters there are
none, others there are multiple birds. This one is particularly easy to
see, my wife and I saw it a few weeks ago also, been around for a few
months (on the north end of the lake in the short grass right near the
trail out to the beach).
On our Cape Arago Audubon field trip last weekend we finally saw some TREE
SWALLOWS at Johnson Mill Pond, around 30. We had 10+ TURKEY VULTURES too.
The most fun were the 11 CINNAMON TEAL in Coquille (at Scoulri pond, at the
int of old Hwy 42 and the Fairview turnoff). They were a weaving and a
bopping, that time of year- many photos were taken ; )
Today was out with Knute Andersson in Bandon- pretty slow and wet, but we
did find 3 EARED GREBES in the Port there. Later in the PM I was down at
Johnson Mill Pond with Teak and we saw 13 TVs circling overhead and a few
swallows up in the stratosphere with them.
