This morning there was a SNOWY EGRET amongst the Great Egrets on Smith
Lake, seen from walking out just past the Smith Lake blind and looking to
the right.
I stopped there first this morning and initially saw only 10 Great Egrets,
and no Snowy. After checking out Bybee Lake, I returned and found about 30
Great Egrets, and also no Snowy. I checked out the small ponds just off
Marine Drive and just west of the car entrance to Smith-Bybee and was going
to the Smith Lake canoe launch site when I ran into Henry Burton who told
me he had seen a Snowy Egret with, if I recall correctly, about 65 Great
Egrets. So I returned to the Smith Lake blind for the 3rd time and now
there were about 120 Great Egrets present. It took some looking, but there
was the Snowy, about 1/2 the size of the Great Egrets and with a black bill.
