I got to Skinner Butte (Eugene) just before 8 this morning to find that the
gate was still locked (grrrr!). Fortunately, my forced hike to the top
revealed a good look at a MACGILLIVRAY'S singing in the morning sun, as
well as a small flock of GC SPARROWS. I also ran into Maitreya shortly
afterwards.
About 40 minutes later, the activity picked up. A wave of at least 25
WESTERN TANAGERS came though (mostly males, maybe three females). They were
joined by at least five BH GROSBEAKS, a couple of WARBLING VIREOS, and a
flyover COWBIRD. Other warbler species were also present, including over a
dozen ORANGE-CROWNS, at least one NASHVILLE, and at least one WILSON'S.
Another birder got a good look at a female LAZULI, but it was hidden by oak
leaves by the time that I was able to find it.
