My apologies for not sending this out last night, I made the treck from Sisters
back to Corvallis after the countdown and it was rather late when I arrived
home.
The 18th Sisters CBC was conducted on December 18, 2016. We started the day
with temperatures around 14 degrees (F), with a high of 27, and lucked out with
blue skies all day. The snow dampened access to large sections of the count
circle, but did not dampen spirits of our 14 participants. Unfortunately, we
were unable to send anyone to Glaze Meadow, though I'm not certain it would
have been accessible without snowshoes.
The snow and ice eliminated most open bodies of water, so we had notably low
numbers of waterfowl. We also struck out on Pinyon Jays. Please remember that
count week runs from December 15, 2016 to December 28th, 2016. If you find any
birds in the count circle that are not listed below, please email me so I can
include them in our count week totals.
Despite the conditions, we managed to locate 64 species, including a few
notables, and several numbers nearing or exceeding our count records
(unfortunately, my computer with the counts records died and I am in the
process of paying someone to transform the data from my Apple formatted
external hard drive to Microsoft formatting so my new computer can read it).
