Thanks to all who offered ID suggestions. I have uploaded it to Xeno-Canto.org
to see what else I might learn. Erik

I'll go out on a limb and suggest *maybe* a juvenile American Coot, if in
appropriate habitat. Additional examples can be found on eBird:

It's August and the northern hemisphere is awash with baby birds. Bird species
we see every day are making sounds we've not heard before and may not hear
again. This may be a raptor, but l really don't, know. Adult birds are about
as taciturn as they get right now. The banding program at Luckiamute Landing
captured 102 birds this weekend. Almost 95% were hatchyear birds. To judge by
vocalizations the place was nearly devoid of birds , when in truth the local
avian count is likely at its annual high point.

Hi, OBOLers. I recorded this in Ladd Marsh Wildlife Management Area, near Hot
Lake, in Union County on Aug. 23 at 9:24 a.m. I have no idea what species it
might be. What do you think it is?
