I thought I would pass this information along for those interested. Today
(Tuesday) Barbara and I were along the coast and thought we would try to find
the sea otter. A staff person at the visitors center told us that this
morning the otter was taken to the Oregon Aquarium for help because when the
BLM staff observed that it appeared to be injured. Upon the aquarium staff’s
approach, the otter began moving more, and a large wound was seen on its back
and it was moving unnaturally as if something were disjointed. Oregon
Aquarium staff arrived around 11 and were able to capture it as it couldn’t
flee. It was taken to the Aquarium for examination and to be treated for its
injuries. What those injuries are and what its fate now is we know nothing
more. Hopefully, they can help it recover. In any case it’s no longer
swimming free at Yaquina Head. This information was given to us by one staff
person but another person only knew it looked injured. Hopefully, I’m passing
along accura
te information and if anyone knows more we would probably all appreciate
learning more.
