Linda and I dodged showers and saw lots of good winter birds. Hunt day so some
parts, Rentenaur and the observation platform had mostly Coots.
Rough Legged Hawk, one near Coon Point
Trumpeter Swans(calling for easy id), many, 20 or so in Sturgeon Lake and more
visible in small ponds to the North--all from Coon Point.
Sandhill Cranes, several groups here and there.
Bald Eagles, 30 easily seen from Coon Point, many more around the island.
East Side observation platform, one Snow Goose swimming with many Coots, a few
more with Canadas in nearby fields and moving with Canada Geese.
Red Shouldered Hawk, beautiful bright fronted bird perched low along slough
near end of Rentenaur Rd.
Also along Rentenaur was the greatest concentration of Mourning Doves I have
seen in Western Oregon, perhaps 40 or more.
